After the news came out earlier this week that Billy Joel will receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, John Boehner Piano Man held on his way. The office of President of the Chamber closed the week with a press release on the status of jobs nation forged full of puns in the titles of songs from Joel.
Headed "14 Greatest Hits of Our Recent Jobs" list includes tipped bullets groaners as "No", did not start the fire 'of uncertainty that small businesses in southwest Ohio and across the country struggling under ObamaCare, "and" But the president has to be just a "big fish," presuming its policies when Americans are having a difficult time. "
Some of the successes achieved even accommodate multiple track titles at a single point, as in: "In addition to all this, the leadership of President 'Shameless' of' economic patriotism" only make things worse, with even more jobs 'Movin' out 'of the country. "Y" So' Say Goodbye to Hollywood, 'Mr. President, and work with us to help grow the middle class and expanding opportunities for everyone from the' Piano Man 'to 'Uptown Girl'. "
It seems unlikely that Billy Joel would sign the message behind the press release, however. Although largely tried to maintain its policy for himself, Joel joined Bruce Springsteen in 2008 to play a benefit for the Obama campaign in New York.
Greeting Boehner to Joel is not entirely limited to attacks against the president, however. On Tuesday, he made a more direct and sincere congratulations on behalf of the House statement. "Billy Joel songbook reads like a map of the human heart and the American experience," he said in part. "The man makes good music, and we are grateful for their contributions."
Joel receives the Gershwin Award in Washington DC this November, with several events held in his honor, including a lunch and musical performance. He'll also be taking place in the capital on Saturday night with a show at Nationals Park.
